An active-learning textbook for second-year classical mechanics, developed for Queen’s University’s PHYS 206 course by Sarah Sadavoy, with support from Cora Sleegers and Lance Schonberg.

This web edition follows the Fall 2025 source. The original is titled Untitled Dynamics Textbook (A work in progress).

Start with the introduction, or go directly to Calculus and Vectors. The book proceeds through Newtonian motion, oscillations, accelerating and rotating frames, momentum, energy, central forces, orbits, and the Lagrange method.

The chapters retain the source’s learning objectives, quick questions, worked examples, student commentary, applications, summaries, and practice problems. The appendices provide resources, derivations, and solutions.

The textbook is distributed under the source repository’s linked CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license. See the credits page for the separate notebook and video notices.
